I love preserving memories of my kids childhoods with Scrapbook pages. This time I’m scrapbooking a trip to a local town for their 1940’s Parade weekend. The kids made suffragette medals and had a ride on a vintage bus. I’ll show you how to make your papers stand out and how to add memorabilia to your scrapbook layouts with a great scrapbook sketch for you to steal.
Designer Scrapbook Papers
I wanted to use a red and blue theme so I picked out this Live Life in Full Bloom paper pack by Craft Sensations. I get these paper packs from the Range, they’re lovely quality and ridiculously cheap.
Paper Edging Technique
Once you have cut your papers to the size and shape you want you can add a little hint of colour to the edges using distress inks.
I start by laying my paper onto a piece of acetate. You can buy acetate in sheets or you can cut it from packaging which is just as good. You do need a flat sheet ideally bigger than the edge of your paper or card.
After choosing my ink colour I dab the ink blending tool onto the ink pad and sweep it from the acetate onto the edge of my paper. I always use a smooth sweeping motion starting and finishing on the acetate sheet.
There are lots of blending tool availible. I have the Ranger one and I’ve been happy with it so I haven’t tried any of the other brands. I use one ink pad for each colour.

Scrapbook Embellishments
The layout needed a little something else so I’ve used my favourite Spellbinders die to add some die cut flowers. I’ve glued a few buttons to the centre of each flower to give them a little dimension. I like the dimension that buttons add to scrapbook pages but I’m not a big fan of the buttons themselves. So I often cover the holes with a large pearl, this way I get the dimension I’m after but it looks more like a custom made embellishment than just a random button.
When I want to stick something with a little more weight like a button I use silicone glue. I squeeze the tube very gently to get just a small blob of silicone out. Then I use a rolling action to sweep the blob off the end of the tube and onto my pokey tool. I use the same rolling motion to sweep the blog onto my scrapbook page or my embellishment.
I should have left it at that but I felt that I should make use of this union jack ribbon I won in a competition years and years ago. I’m really not happy with how the ribbon looks.
