This hearty and super healthy soup is great for chilly winter lunches. We love it served with warm crusty bread and lashings of homemade mint sauce. I make a big batch in the slow cooker and freeze it for easy lunches all winter.
Ingredients
- 2 kg Frozen Peas £1.98
- 1 kg Gammon £4.72
- 1kg Onions 99p
- 1 Bulb Garlic 24p
- 4 Chicken Stock Cubes 24p
Total Cost = £8.17
Makes 12 servings = 68p per serving

How To Cook Slow Cooker Pea and Ham Soup
Start by mincing the garlic.
Then chop the onions and fry them both until they’re soft.
Sling them into the slow cooker along with the whole gammon joint.
Empty the bags of frozen peas on top.
Then add the stock cubes.
Stir it as best you can around the meat.
Leave it to cook on low for about 4 – 5 hours.
Remove the gammon and cut it into bite sized pieces.
Blend the remining soup until it’s as smooth as you’d like it to be.
Then return the chopped ham to the slow cooker and give it a stir.
Portion into freezer proof tubs and leave the soup to cool completely before popping it in the freezer.
Defrost in the fridge overnight and reheat either in the microwave or on the hob.
