Bright and Cheerful Baby Scrapbook Layout with Make and Create Designer Papers

I’m scrapbooking this adorable photo of my baby girl playing shop keeper in her little Wendy house. I’ve used bright and colourful papers from Make and Create along with die cuts from XCut to make this bright and cheerful baby scrapbook layout.

Designer Scrapbook Papers

I love the designer papers from Make and Create. There are loads and loads of different designs to choose from. I’m literally spoilt for choice. The quality is great, they don’t feel thin or flimsy but they are fantastically good value.

I get them from the Works and typically pay just £4.00 a pack. Even on a tight budget I can afford to have a whole stack to choose from.

How to Cut Scrapbooking Papers

For most of my paper cutting I use a simple paper trimmer. I like this one because it’s nice and compact but it opens up to cut a full sheet of 12 x 12 inch or A4 paper. The blades are replaceable and they last ages. I do find I need to clean out the channel the blades go into, removing all the little fluffy bites of paper that build up in there.

Paper Trimmer

Often I use papers in whatever size I happen to have. I like to make the most of my paper scraps and I often find that making use of what I have helps me to come up with my best creative ideas.

How to Use Distress the Edges

Once you have cut your papers to the size and shape you want you can add a little hint of colour to the edges using distress inks.

I start by laying my paper onto a piece of acetate. You can buy acetate in sheets or you can cut it from packaging which is just as good. You do need a flat sheet ideally bigger than the edge of your paper or card.

After choosing my ink colour I dab the ink blending tool onto the ink pad and sweep it from the acetate onto the edge of my paper. I always use a smooth sweeping motion starting and finishing on the acetate sheet.

There are lots of blending tool availible. I have the Ranger one and I’ve been happy with it so I haven’t tried any of the other brands. I use one ink pad for each colour.

On this scrapbook layout I’ve used Black Soot.

Scrapbook Embellishments

With so many bright colours on this scrapbook layout I’ve chosen to keep the embellishments quite minimal. I cut some flags out of the Bright Basics papers and added some tiny gem stars in sets of three around the scrapbook page.

I’ve used my XCut star die to cut some little stars to add a little interest the scrapbook layout.

To make the layers and elements stand out better I’ve inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink.

For the title I’ve die cut some letters from my favourite Alphabet die, XCut’s Mid West. I use a glue pen to stick them in place on my scrapbook layout.

A Little Bit About Me . . .

Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by my little corner of the interweb. I’m Bridie.

I’ve been crafting since I was toddling around craft shows while my mum sold knitting yarn. She used to buy me a new craft kit to keep me busy. When I grew up I set up my own online craft shop and loved every minute of it. There’s is nothing like the thrill of getting to be one of the first people to see new craft collections. I sold my business to focus on raising my two children.

They’re still young so for now I’m blogging my scrapbooking layouts and sharing tutorials to inspire you. I love scrapbooking to preserve precious memories of my kids childhoods. But scrapbooking can be such an expensive hobby! I hope that I can teach you how to scrapbook on a budget, even how to make scrapbook layouts for Free.

I’ll show you all the best ways to craft on a tight budget so you can still create a life you love.
