The Bunzies from Stitch Upon a Time are the comfiest underwear I have ever owned. They’re really easy to sew too and best of all the fabric pieces are quite small so they can be sewn for leftover scraps of fabric that may otherwise go to waste.
Sewing Pattern
These Bunzies knickers from Stitch Upon a Time are sooo comfortable!! Honestly once you’ve tried hand sewn knickers you won’t go back!
It does shock some people the first time they see handmade knickers as they are rather well, huge. There’s no other way to say it. Commercially sewn knickers can be tiny little things so it can be off putting to see the size of handmade knickers. But honestly it’s all in the name of comfort and it’s that what matters at the end of the day?!
The Bunzies sewing pattern is super quick and easy to sew up. There’s just two main pieces plus the liner which is a tiny little scrap of fabric. Then there’s the three bands unless you’re using the elastic bands, like in the pattern cover image above. I’ve heard that the elastic option compromises a little on comfort so I’ve never actually tried it.
I’ve also never tried the skimpier versions of the pattern. As a busy mum so it’s all about the comfort for me.
Sewing the Liner
I like to sew the liner down. But as well as stitching it in place I also fold the overlocked edges over so that it’s neatly hidden under the knicker liner.

Sewing the Bands
To reduce the bulk in my bands I like to sew the two ends together using a straight stitch. Instead of the stretch stitch I use for the rest of the knickers.

Then I press the seam open before sewing the bands in place according to the instructions on the pattern. It’s an extra couple of little steps that make a big different to the comfort of the finished underwear.
