The knitting pattern is perfect of beginners. It uses only knit and pearl stitches to create this lovely bumpy texture.
This is quite a small knitting project so it’s ideal for using up leftover bits of yarn. I keep mine in my bag ready for anytime I have to wait around anywhere. It’s such a small project I can tuck the ball into my pocket and knit stood in line on the school run. It’s amazing how those few minutes here, there and everywhere can add up to a whole dishcloth.

Hand Knitted Dishcloths
Not just great for a laugh, hand knitted dishcloths are far superior to their machine made modern equivalents. The extra thick bumpy, lumpy texture is perfect for scrubbing tough stains from your pans.
They are also fantastic in the bathroom, gently exfoliating even the most sensitive skin. Use them to wrap an expensive soap for a beautifully presented gift.

Knitting Supplies You Will Need
I’ve used 4mm knitting needles and DK weight yarn. One of the great things about knitting dishcloths is that it doesn’t really matter what yarn or needles you use. If you use a heavier weight yarn and larger needles then your dishcloth will be bigger. If’s 4ply cotton yarn you have handy then your dishcloth will be smaller, you may wish to add some extra cast on stitches to compensate for that. If you’re in doubt knit a swatch in your chosen yarn and needles and check that you are happy with how dense your stitches are.
When it comes to yarn,. whilst you can knit these dishcloths in any yarn that takes your fancy, if you want them to be functional dishcloths then I do recommend that you stick to 100% cotton yarn. If they’re going to be purely decorative then go right ahead and knit them in in that leftover merino if you want.
Free Knitting Pattern
Use 4mm needles and 100% cotton DK weight yarn
Cast on 40 stitches in Red yarn
Knit the first two rows
Change to black yarn.
Then knit in pattern as follows:
K2, (K2 P2) x 9, K2
K2, (K2 P2) x 9, K2
K2, (P2, K2) x 9, K2
K2, (P2, K2) x 9, K2
Change back to red yarn
Conbtinue in pattern until length measures about an inch less than the width.
Change to white yarn.
Continue in pattern until your dishcloth is roughly square.
Knit the last two rows.
Cast off in knit
Sew in the ends
How to Assemble Your Knitted Dishcloth Britches
Fold each dishcloth in half, length ways and place them side by side so that the edges meet. Weave a length of yarn through the top of them both tying a bow in the centre. Weave another length of yarn around the bottom of each “leg” and tie. Use a little leftover yarn to attach the two cloths together in the middle with a little bow.
