Soft and Warm – Hand knitted socks are a real treat for your feet.  Follow my simple free sock knitting pattern and learn how to knit your own chunky boot socks in children’s and ladies sizes. Just perfect for winter hikes and gifting.

Materials

This pair is knitted from traditional Nordic sock yarn from Jarbo. It’s called Raggi and contains 70% wool and 30% polyamide.

I use 3.25mm double pointed needles for the main sock knitting and 3mm double pointed needles for the cuffs. You could use the magic loop method with this knitting pattern, personally I prefer to use double pointed needles but it’s totally up to you.

This is a pretty hefty downsizing from the 4 – 5mm needles recommended. I’ve found that dropping a needle size or two makes my socks more hardwearing.
