Sew a Minecraft Myth Costume with Peek-A-Boo Patterns Costume Creator

My Little Dude asked for a Minecraft Myth costume for this year’s Halloween costume. I wasn’t too sure what a Minecraft Myth actually is but I knew where to find the perfect sewing pattern! Peek-A-Boo Patterns Costume Creator is a loose fitting jumpsuit which is endlessly customisable. It’s perfect for creating just about any costume you can imagine.

Keep on reading for details of the hacks I used to sew this Minecraft Myth Costume with Peek-A-Boo Patterns Costume Creator Sewing Pattern.

I love sewing with stretch fabrics but good quality stretch fabric is really expensive. Cheaper stretch fabrics tend to have really poor recovery so the garments look scruffy after just a few wears. They also tend to be very unpleasant to sew with, twisting and slipping all over the place!

Woven fabrics on the other hand are abundantly availible at affordable prices and can be really cheap if you get creative. Polycotton for example is availible in a huge range of designs and generally only costs a few pounds a metre. With some thrifty fabric hoarding woven fabrics can even be sourced for free – my very favourite price.

Peek-A-Boo Pattern’s Costume Creator Sewing Pattern can be sewn in either stretch or woven fabrics. So it is perfect for making use of your fabric stash and saving money on your fabric shopping. It’s really useful for when you’re trying to find just the right shade of white for a Halloween costume.

After some Googling to find out what on earth a Minecraft Myth actually is and what it looks like, I opted for the collarless hooded jumpsuit. It’s a great simple base to add your own embellishments. After printing the pattern I chopped a few inches off the bottom of the legs and arms. I cut the bottom part of the pattern from black and the reast in white, adding a seam allowance to both ends.

After sewing the black and white fabrics together to make the complete pattern piece I followed the rest of the instructions on the sewing pattern.

Every Peek-A-Boo pattern I’ve tried so far has been very straightforward to sew. They are easy to print and the instructions are super clear. They don’t generally include more than one of two fiddley details. I generally complete a Paak-A-Boo pattern with zero swearing but they are still interesting enough to be just the right level of challenging. Perfect for making kids clothes quickly enough to keep up with their growth spurts.

Digital Sewing Patterns

Digital sewing patterns are fantastic for kids clothes because you just print the size you want, no tracing or messing about trying to preserve the larger sizes of the pattern for using as your child grows.

They generally come with loads of different options and a wider size range than traditional paper sewing patterns. Most of the digital sewing patterns I own go all the way up to the teenage years.

Sewing Fabric

I had a tricky brief for this sewing project – trust an eight year old to be super specific with zero idea of how much work they’re asking for. Minecraft Myths are kind of whiteish greyish mottled, not quite a solid colour but mostly a ghostly off white. Not easy to find.

But luck would have it I found an old fabric scrap in exactly the right colours with a murky mottled type random pattern. Not only was the colour perfect but I had exactly the right amount of fabric. If I hadn’t have been chopping of the legs and arms I wouldn’t have had enough, it was that perfect.

I love it when a project comes together like this, making the most of my fabric scraps and so costing nothing.

Plain Polycotton Fabric Black

The black fabric came from an old bedsheet that I saved because plain black fabric always comes in handy. I think I managed to get the contrasting cuffs out of scraps leftover from a quilt I’ve almost finished sewing.

I get most of my fabric from Minerva Crafts. They have a great selection and very reasonable prices.

Sewing Thread

I use Coats Moon Thread for all of my sewing projects. It’s a fantastic all rounder great for machine sewing, hand sewing, quilting and top stitching. Best of all it’s fantastic value. I use it for literally everything!

I buy it in bulk and put the surplus in my Etsy shop. There’s loads of colours to choose from.
