My Little Miss loves these simple skirts. They’re quick and easy to sew and can be stitched from a wide range of fabrics so they make fantastic stash busting sewing projects. This one is sewn with some very smart navy woven fabric, perfect for school uniform.

Simplicity 1332 Sewing Pattern

I use this Simplicity 1332 sewing pattern A LOT.

As well as the lovely simple skirt I’m sewing it also includes a sewing pattern for super simple leggings and a lovely colour blocked top. There’s a cardigan too which I haven’t got round to sewing up yet.

It’s a super quick and easy sewing pattern, perfect for beginners. It’s also nice for a more experienced sewer (sewist?) like me to have a really quick pattern that I can use to quickly and easily fill my little girl’s wardrobe.

Sewing the Side Seams

I double stitch all my seams, first with a conventional sewing machine, then with an overlocker.

Most of my sewing projects are for children so I think it’s really important that they stand up to rough and tumble play.

Finishing the seams with an overlocker also means that they’re all nicely enclosed which gives a really professional finish.

Sewing the Waistband

I used to eyeball my elastic casing but an uneven edge can make it very difficult to catch it consistently when sewing in place from the front. Now I ALWAYS take the time to measure it accurately.

I join the two ends of the elastic with a zig zag stitch, reversing and re-stitching several times to make sure it’s good and secure.

I insert the elastic and then sew the elastic casing. It is more fiddly to stitch than using a bodkin but it results in a much neater finish and no sewing up the hole – yay!

Sewing the Hems

I’m using my twin needle to stitch the hem in place so that the wrong side of the hem is neatly caught at the back of my stitching.
