Divergent by Veronica Roth – Book Review

Divergent by Veronica Roth is a fantastic read for young adults who are into Dystopian Sci-Fi books. I’m a little sad that I’m no longer a young adult and found the book to be enjoyable but not particularly memorable.

I had it in my head that I’d seen the divergent movie and enjoyed it and that’s how the book ended up on my audible wish list.

Apparently not, I’ve not seen the movie. It looks good though, so I’ve added it to my Netflix watch list.

So I’ve no idea how I heard of this book or what made me buy it. I’m sure I knew at the time.

It took me ages to get into reading Divergent. I’m not entirely sure if this was just a busy few weeks when I didn’t have time to read. But I doubt it, if a book really draws me in, I make time to read. And frankly I just couldn’t be bothered for weeks.

I’ve been doing a lot of mindless sewing this week and so I decided to give divergent a real chance.

I’m really glad I did. Once I got into it I enjoyed the story. The characters finally started to come to life in my mind. I found myself fascinated with the mysteries and the “will they, won’t they” love story.

I did find it a bit “teeny”, but really what else did I expect? Teens are clearly the target market.

It’s not been the highlight of my reading year. But definitely worth reading. I haven’t bought the second book but I haven’t removed it from my audible wish list either. I’m intrigued to watch the movie and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.
